From Our Garden to Yours: How to Order from Tanager Greenhouse

From Our Garden to Yours: How to Order from Tanager Greenhouse

There's no warehouse. No conveyor belt. No random employee grabbing whatever's closest to the door. It's just me, Michelle — a Master Gardener who's genuinely obsessed with making sure every plant that leaves here is set up to thrive in your garden.

So let me walk you through it.

You've Got Two Ways In

Option 1: Browse the Website and Order Online

If you already know what you're looking for — or you just love scrolling through plants the way some people scroll through real estate listings (no judgment, I do it too) — you can hop on the Tanager Greenhouse website and explore.

You can filter by native plants, drought-tolerant varieties, pollinators sun and shade requirements - all the things that matter when you're gardening intentionally. When you find what you want, add it to your cart. Think of it less like a typical online purchase and more like putting in a reservation. These are living things, and availability shifts with the seasons, so your order locks in what's here right now.

Option 2: Book an Appointment to Come Browse in Person

Maybe you're not sure what you need yet. Maybe you want to see what's looking good right now, talk through your garden goals, or just wander around and get inspired. I get it — sometimes you need to see a plant in person.

You can book an appointment through my Calendly link or contact by email or call to schedule a time to come browse. It's just you and me, walking through what's available, talking about what would work best in your space. No pressure, no sales pitch — just a Master Gardener helping you think through your options.

What Happens After You Order

This is the part I think people don't realize, and it's honestly my favorite part of the whole process.

When your order comes in, I go through it personally. I'm not just pulling plants off a shelf. I'm looking at every specimen I have of that variety and picking the one I'd want in my own garden. The strongest root system. The best structure. The healthiest growth. Every single plant in your order gets that kind of attention.

And because I'm a Master Gardener, if something you ordered isn't available or I think there's something that would work even better for your situation, I'll reach out with suggestions. Maybe a companion planting that would support what you're already growing, or a substitution that's better suited to your specific conditions. You're not just getting a plant — you're getting my honest recommendation.

Scheduling Your Pickup or Delivery

Once your order is hand-selected and ready to go, here's what happens next:

If you're picking up: I'll send you an email letting you know everything is ready, and there'll be a Calendly link right in that email for you to book a pickup time that works for your schedule. You get a real time slot to pick-up, so I can give you my full attention when you're here.

If you want delivery: I'll give you a call to coordinating delivery is easier as a quick conversation than a chain of emails. I deliver locally myself, so we'll find a time that works for both of us.

The Handoff — This Is Where It Gets Good

For pickup customers, your time slot isn't just "grab your plants and go" (unless that's what you're looking for).   When you get here, I walk you through everything in your order. We can talk specifics about:

  • Watering and care specific to each plant you're taking home
  • Planting tips tailored to what these particular plants need to establish well
  • The Spokanescape process — tips for creating a water-wise landscape
  • Long-term garden care — because I want your garden to thrive for years, not just look good the first week

For delivery customers, I'm the one showing up at your door. Same plants, same care, same person who selected them.

Why It Works This Way

I started Tanager Greenhouse because I believe the plants you bring into your garden matter. The choices you make ripple outward. They affect pollinators, soil health, water use, and the resilience of your whole landscape.

So I want to make sure every plant that leaves here is the right plant for you, and that you feel confident taking care of it.
