These plants have characteristics that make them less prone to fire risk. Note: They are not fire-proof!
Fire resistant characteristics are:
- Low growing
- Herbaceous plants
- Open growth habit
- High moisture (i.e. succulents)
- Water-like sap
- Broad leaves
- Low accumulation of dead materials
- Tight bark
- Native plants
Non Fire-wise characteristics
- Fine-textured plant parts
- Dense growth habit
- Low moisture content
- Sticky sap
- High accumulation of dead vegetation
- Shaggy bark
